Becky for Model Number IED4400vq1 Dryer won't work. I had checked all the components, even replaced some when they didn't need it! I hear the timer running and it does advance, but when I went to check it by taking it out, I hear rattling. I opened that up and put the plastic piece back on, (I did notice a little spot that looks like it was burnt and I noticed that when I went to take the timer off, the little plastic clip on top where you separate it, was bent a little, like it was replaced before)then I put it back together and it is still not running. I checked all the wiring, all looks great. I even replaced the cord, when it is still fine. I have no idea what is wrong with it. I read that it could be the starter switch, replaced that but to find out the original was fine, changed the thermal fuse, found out the same, even the door switch... all the original parts are fine.(This is costing us more then a new dryer would because once you open the package, they don't do returns... $$ we don't have to be spending on a new one or now getting this one fixed by having someone come out and do it). We bought this dryer at the beginning of last year. so the warranty would of been already expired. Everything shows it should be running and fine, but nothing.... yes I did check the breaker, both are fine... what could be wrong?
Answer Becky, You'll need to check across the timer terminals blue and black with the timer in a cycle, the circuit should be "closed" on a multimeter. You could have a bad contact inside the timer, still. Check and make sure the blue wire from the timer to the thermal fuse, the wire from the thermal fuse to the motor, and the thermal fuse itself, have "closed" circuits. We know you have voltage into the timer, because you hear the ticking noise, but no voltage to the motor, or it would start and run, or at least make a noise, when the start button is pressed.
