Daryl for Model Number ED5GTGXNQ11 Whirlpool side by side. I replaced the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer. The defrost timer has a black wire. The original had no wire. After installing the timer and connecting the black wire as a ground it would not turn on. Put back in the old timer and the unit works. The condenser coil was icing up and rather than test the parts I chose to just replace them all. Luckily the defrost timer is easy to access.
