Frank, Yes, to remove the knob, turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it from the timer shaft. You should also check the dial "teeth" and knob "teeth" to make sure they engage and lock properly. You may want to put a thin coat of lubricant on both ends of the timer shaft, and push and pull the shaft a few times to lube the interior contacts. Good Luck and Thanks.
