  • Knob doesn't advance or must be manually turned to proceed between steps

  • Disconnect power before servicing; turn off water if you'll be moving hoses
  • Access through the control console; photograph wiring and transfer connectors one at a time to matching terminals

Linda for Model Number LSR8433KQ0

A very small clip is broken off the black pin that goes thru the timer to hold the knob in place. Is this black pin simply a device to hold the knob fast? Or is this why the machine won't advance to agitation? All other cycles seem to advance fine, it's just the agitation on both wash & rinse. I can jiggle the knob and get it started but if I don't get to it within several minutes I smell "hot". Hot wires?Hot motor? Don't really know. Do I need a timer or a new washer? Thanks.

Answer

Linda, the black pin is used to lock the knob onto the timer shaft. the burning smell that is occurring could be from the timer contacts not closing properly when it is supposed to be agitating. It would be recommended that the origin of the odor is isolated to if it is in the console ( indicating the timer WP3948852 ) or if it is from near the motor.
