Bosch 00070087 Fast Radiant Element (180 Mm / 7 In., 4-Wire) OEM Part

It was difficult finding the correct size metric replacement disc for a Miele "combiSet" cooktop. I only found this Bosch unit with 4 wires, whereas the burned-out part had 2 wires. Using an ohmmeter, I discovered that the 4-wire Bosch unit had two elements inside, one on terminals 1 and 2, and the other on terminals 3 and 4. I put them in parallel by connecting a copper shunt wire from 2 to 3 and a second shunt from 1 to 4. The combined resistance will be about 27 ohms. It was difficult to shove the shunt wires into the connection blocks, which were intended to hold only two wires. I solved that by hammering the tips of the wires against an anvil until they were flat. If you want to follow these instructions, make sure the shunt wires are as thick as the existing wire to handle the current, and make sure the shunts do not touch any chassis parts when the unit is closed using the two large screws on the bottom of the chassis. Make sure the unit is unplugged when open, and close it before you test it. It made a large spark and blew the circuit breaker on my first try. One shunt had been too close to the chassis. A tough job, but the outcome was excellent.
