Ronald C Adrian , MI October 04, 2020 Appliance: Bosch Dishwasher SHEM63W52N/01 Wanted to keep our Bosch dishwasher when changing the color of appliances in the kitchen from white to black Used the model number for a Black dishwasher (instead of our white dishwasher) to find and order the new "Black" parts required. The last few digits on the model number represent the outside color. "52N" = white color, "56N" = black color, and "55N" = Stainless Steel finish. I had replace the outer Door panel, Top Facia, Left pushbutton set, and Right pushbutton set. Spray painted the white toe kick with black spray paint. Reused the original handle insert from white dishwasher (all models have the same black handle insert). Removed the handle insert from original white facia, and installed it into the new "Black" facia. To start out I may not have used the proper names of all the parts involved. Just happens to be what I called them, do your own investigation work to see what needs to be changed on your own dishwasher. Also, several times in the article I call some of the plastic that hold parts in place "clips". These are typically small pieces of plastic sticking out of the part which are used to make them snap fit together (you can usually find where to squeeze or slightly pry on them to get the two pieces apart). *** Shut power to dishwasher off, and verify it is OFF. *** Remove the bottom three Torx screws from each side the inside of the door. Remove the outside door panel by pulling down and out at the bottom (grab the edges at the very bottom of door panel). *** Remove the screws across the top inside of the door, along with one screw on each side at the very top. Pull the facia out a little and unfold the wires from under the plastic clips on the facia. *** Take picture of where the wires will go back to before unplugging any of them. Unplug the wires going to electronic control panel, and remove it from the original the facia piece. This electronic control board mounted on the back will be moved to the new facia. *** Install the new left and right pushbutton sets into the top facia (from the back side). Insert the very top of the buttons (clear part) first. Once it is in place, the button set will just hinge into place. My button sets had the very end buttons broken off the rest of the buttons and they had to be inserted separately. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH THE BUTTON SETS. If you drop them they will break apart at the hinge pin side. *** Best to set the old and new facia parts face down on a table covered with a soft towel. Lay them next to each other so you can easily move the parts from one to the other *** Remove the original door handle insert and reinstall it into the new facia. This is done by releasing the bottom plastic clips and pulling the handle insert out. *** Insert the handle insert into the back side of the new facia *** Both sides of the back of the facia have small cable connectors attached to the facia plastic. Squeeze the sides of the connector block, push it forward, and up a little to take them off the facia back. *** Remove the ON/OFF switch by releasing the bottom edge clip and sliding it down a little. Save to later reinstall on new facia. *** Remove the original electronic control board, and move it to the new facia. This is done by slightly prying at the plastic clips at the bottom (there are five of them). Start at one side and slowly work your way across the bottom clips. When the board edge is completely loose from the clips, swing it up and out. *** Reinstall the electronic control board into the new facia. Insert top first, then push the bottom edge back into the plastic clips on the bottom until they nap. *** Reinstall the original ON/OFF switch into the new facia back side plastic. Set it into place (should drop down a little) an then slide it up towards the top of the facia until it snaps onto the clip. *** Reinstall the end cable connector blocks. Set them into the slots and push them towards the bottom of the facia until the sides snap into place. *** Everything should be back onto the new Facia now. Verify all the small plastic clip latches are firmly set. *** Turn facia panel over and test press every switch operation (mechanically). You should hear/feel a small click on every button as it is pressed. *** Hold new facia up to front of dishwasher and put all the plugs back into the proper connectors (remember the picture you took earlier?). Fold up the excess cables and push them under the clips on the back of the facia. *** Install assembled facia into the dishwasher door and put the (6) screws on the top, back in, to hold it in place. *** Install the new front door panel using the three Torx screws on each side of the door (inside). *** Turn the power back on and test the dishwasher functions. *** It took me longer to write this all down than it did to do the actual work. Actual work was about 35 minutes (that included laying down blankets and towels to protect things from being scratched). We know have a Black dishwasher, instead of a white one. Read More...
