Thomas H Las Vegas , NV November 09, 2015 Gas lift pistons on gaggenau microwave lift door lost pressure through time and wouldn't hold door up Had to remove the entire door mechanism; don't even think of doing it while it's still mounted in the cabinet. Old pistons came off obviously and easily. The new pistons are under high pressure, and nearly 1" longer than the space they will occupy; so, I attached one end, then used an alignment punch (a phillips screwdriver would work) through the piston and then the frame holes; a bit of fiddling and the piston/frame holes were lined up. Now to get the bolt through those holes without letting go. It turned out that there is just enough room to grab the frame and piston and hold them together (with the holes aligned) with a pair of vise grips, yet still have enough room to get the bolt through and put the nut on. So, 8mm wrench/socket for nut, adjustable wrench for odd bolt-head, vice-grips, and small (8") alignment punch. A very nicely made product with lots of typical obsessive German engineering touches, as usual for Gaggenau.
