This OEM sprocket assembly contains a sprocket, which is a circular gear with teeth that engage with the links on a chain to move the chain forward.A new sprocket assembly will be needed if the part is broken in any way or if the sprocket teeth are worn off. If it's not immediately obvious to the eye, a test can be performed to determine if a new sprocket assembly is needed. Simply move the chain and if at any point the chain becomes stuck, this means a new sprocket assembly is needed. Remember to wear gloves when operating or performing care and maintenance on any outdoor power equipment machines.This is a genuine MTD part sourced directly from the manufacturer and is sold individually. The sprocket assembly is compatible with trimmers manufactured by either Troy-Bilt or Cub Cadet.
