Stewart K Stanford , CA September 12, 2014 Appliance: Model DDW399W DANBY COUNTERTOP DISHWASHER Broken captive nut Threaded area had cracked and broken off, and I previously held it together with epoxy putty, but the threads were stripped and it tended to unscrew itself, and the plastic fragments were damaged by the dishwasher action. The new nut was the straight-threaded nut for the base, not the captive nut for the spray arm. With the adjustable wrench, I got the broken captive nut off (held on by another left-hand-thread nut, not heat-welded) and built a replacement using a 1-inch inside diameter stainless-steel fender washer. I covered a work surface with plastic cling wrap, and made a ring of epoxy putty that I wrapped around the nut and washer to hold them together, flattest sides together, with the washer on the cling wrap so the epoxy would not have any rough edges to snag on the spray arm. The epoxy seems to hold well enough (rated for 250 F), but I wouldn't trust it as a surface glue, since thermal expansion of different materials might pop it off, so I made sure to wrap around both surfaces. What a pain that all these parts are left-hand-thread! Read More... 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Adjustable Wrench
