How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP5809118 / 00755058 Igniter

Ordered an igniter from AppliancePartsPros.com it came within 2 days. I watched YouTube videos on the repair. They were accurate except for one detail. They did not show you taking the back off of the oven. (They showed you cutting the wires attached to the igniter and attaching to the range wires using ceramic wire nuts and not taking the back off of the oven) The igniter comes with a quick disconnect. You can take the back of range off. To get to the quick disconnect. the back of the range comes off easily 13 screws. 

The repair was pretty simple, just involves pulling out the oven, unscrewing some things, and swapping out the igniter. First take the bottom liner out of the oven to expose the igniter and unscrew the 2 screws holding the igniter in. You will likely need some WD-40 or similar to get the screws loose. Once that's done, pull out the oven and remove the screws from the back panel and take the back panel off. With the back panel off, you should be able to see the heat resistant cabling for the igniter coming out of a small box-like cover near the bottom of the back of the oven. There's 1 screw holding the "box" on. Remove the "box" cover and disconnect the connector to the igniter. Thread in the new igniter wire and plug it into the connector. Screw everything back together, push the oven back in, and you're done! 

Disconnected igniter test and found bad, ordered new igniter waited 6 days for a new one. After the part was received, it took 42 minutes to pull the stove out and install put stove back in and the test all worked fine. 

Ordered replacement igniter. Pulled appliance unit off from the cabinets to gain access to the back. Unplugged unit. Removed back panel via 13 screws using a star screwdriver. Removed cover allowing access to the igniter wiring. Inside the oven removed racks and bottom plate giving access to the igniter. Removed and replaced igniter via 2 screws with taps. Routed wire to the back of the unit and connected to the controller wiring connector. Replaced cover. Replaced back panel with screws. Reinstalled bottom plate. Plugged in unit and tested. Returned unit to the wall/cabinets. Required about 50 minutes of effort including entering this story. 

Replaced the ignitor after waiting almost a month for the servicing company that was tasked with handling my purchased extended warranty fell short. Simple fix that took less than an hour. 

Replaced the igniter. It required a #20 star drive and the removal of the back panel of the range. 

A quick internet search indicated that my igniter had probably failed. Thanks to the parts diagrams and accuracy of the search function for my model number, I found the part quickly. Ordered it with 2-day shipping and it arrived as expected. It took far longer to get the telescoping rack out of the oven than to install the part! All done within a couple of hours and that includes sweeping up the crumbs from under the range. 

Replaced ignitor. Took interior and rear panels off to access ignitor assembly. Part was perfect match to original component. 

Installed a new ignitor. 

Replacing the igniter involved a simple set of steps — removing the door and bottom plate of the oven, and the back panel of the range, and then swapping out the igniter and its wiring with its thermal lining. From what I can tell, one advantage of the Bosch part here is that it comes with that thermal sheath. If one bought a generic part, those seem to come without the protection; you would want to clip the wires and leave existing heat protection in place then. The previous (original) wiring definitely showed the steady exposure to heat. This was an easy one. The hardest part of this process was just knowing for sure that we were ordering the right part for our range model.
