How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6278889 / WB27X28659 Cooling Fan Sensor

Replaced cooling fan and sensor. Really didn’t need sensor, but though it was a good idea while it was apart. Your supposed to take top and side panels off, but I was able to ‘finesse’ it out. Helpful Tip- GE Cafe Double Oven. Press ‘bake’ and ‘2’ together for a few seconds puts oven in Diagnostic mode. From there you can access trouble codes. I found code 350 for cooling fan. Codes will not always appear by themselves on the display, you may need to find them in Diag mode, it depends on the fault. Press ‘bake’ and ‘1’ together and you go in Service Mode. From there you can operate functions, such as the cooling fan, convection fan, etc etc. 

I googled a GE stove 1 to 5 years old and up came the part # and the same flashing F350. Fortunately, my son was home for Christmas and he replaced the parts ordered. The stove is working perfectly.

We have been getting the F97 error code for the last year. I could get the oven to work for a period of time by using my shop vac to clean and spin the lower fan, but eventually even that wouldn't work. My guess was that the lower fan or the board sensor was bad, so my plan was to replace both. Pulling the oven was fairly straight forward. Four screws at the front, and it slides right out. I removed both doors and all the racks to reduce weight. But be aware that the oven will not function with the doors removed, so you will need to replace them to test your work. I used a workout/weight bench to set the oven on (just happened to be the perfect height). Several overlapping sheet metal panels needed removed, but access to the lower fan was fairly easy. One big red connecting clip to disconnect and the whole fan and wire harness comes right out. I needed to borrow two nuts from the old fan to attach the new board sensor to the new fan. I would recommend taking a few pics as you go to remind you of the correct reassembly sequence. Overall the hardest part was getting the oven back in the cabinet. Ours was a replacement oven, and barely fit in the cabinet to begin with. Kept hitting the power cable and would not seat all the way back. After about 10 attempts, I was able to get it "good enough". My wife was able to bake cookies for the first time in 3 weeks. 

Replaced the fan and sensor but I had help. Had to disconnect the power and remove lots of panels. helper had a lift to hold the oven 

Replaced the lower oven fan and board attached to it. I built a platform and after removing both doors and the 4 screws I slid it out on the platform. Removed a lot of screws (3 panels) swapped fan and board on the bracket and put it back together. About 45 minutes. 

Have not gotten around to replacing it yet but man, the parts were shipped right away and were here the next day! 

Ordered new fans and boards. The parts were delivered really fast. 

Replaced blower and onboard sensor. Cleaned a lot of grease from inside housing
