How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3414537 / WR02X10322 Dust Cap

I had found that the fan in the freezer was making a lot of noise. Turns out the shaft was loose, causing the flan blade to wobble. Replaced the motor and fan and now it runs like a new unit. 

Changed fan motor, rubber grommets, and dust cover. It sounded like the vibrating sound was being caused by the motor. But, come to find out I had a chipped blade on one of the fan blades. So make sure and check the fan blade first. Thanks Appliance Parts Pros everything for just as it should. 

My side by side fridge was not defrosting, and then would freeze up, and have to be manually defrosted, ordered new defrost heater, for my fridge, as well as a few other small parts for future service, this company ships OEM parts, very fast, they have a lot of chop, chop, replaced failed defrost element and all is well. thanks a.p. pros. 

The problem was most likely the evaporator fan motor but it could have been a bad blade, loose parts or bad motor mounts. Hard to tell without taking everything apart and inspecting. Since fridge was 17 years old I decided to order the entire evaporator fan assembly as shown in the parts diagram including fan blade, motor brackets, motor, motor mounts, screws, etc. Getting to the assembly involved removing the ice maker unit plus the entire rear inside of the freezer section. Parts cost around $300+ but it was worth it because all the brackets, screws. etc. were completely rusted and the rubber motor mounts were shot. Also, it's a nasty, 2-hour job that involved uttering a few four-letter words so I only wanted to have to do it once. It now runs like new! 

Video was helpful, but my model had a slightly different layout. I followed the video, but I had to remove the inside rear panel also, in order to have access to some of the bolts shown in the video. I also had to remove the rails that the icemaker slides into. Overall, the location of the fan was as shown in the video, and removing and installing the actual part was quite simple. It took a little over an hour for me, including locating the proper tools. The freezer area is narrow, so it also was a slow process maneuvering the tools to remove and reinstall the bolts. 

Located noise in freezer compartment. Replaced fan and motor. Problem seems solved for now. will be monitoring it for a few days. 

Looked up info on web and found this site. Found the problem and ordered parts to replace the evaporator fan. Install was easy and very well guided with the diagrams and videos provided here. I think I had a harder time just getting the shelves cleared and removed. Total install was only about 15 minutes and now works like new! Saved thousands on having to replace the fridge. Thanks!!!
