How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4362881 / WH43X10037 Coupling Pulsator

Replaced the Coupling Pulsator, and the Pulsator (short spindle in the center of the washer). The only problem that I encountered was how to remove the short spindle in the center of the washer...my fabric softer is in the center and you need to open that, grab the middle and loosen by turning left. Once that is out you will use a 7/16th socket and remove the entire agitator. Most of the videos show that you pull that straight up to remove - not the short one. There is still a screw to remove. After I reassembled I ensured that the washing machine was level. It took less then 10 minutes for tear apart and put together. Replaced worn pulsator coupling under agitator. No more noise. 

I ordered a mode shifter and shaft assembly, I watched the how to fix video .which was very detailed and I followed it. it was very involved repair you have to completely disassemble the machine it took me about 3 to 4 hours to do the repair, but I saved about 3 hundred dollars by doing it myself. I would recommend Appliances Pros to anyone you like to fix things there self and save some money. Also thanks to Joyce ext.2095. Jim

I ordered three parts from Appliance Parts Pros, a new agitator, coupling pulsator, (the column that the agitator sits on) and the screw to fasten the agitator down (total cost about $100). The old parts were removed, examined and cleaned. They were still functioning, so they were put back in place until the new ones arrived. Upon arrival, the new parts were installed and the machine went back into action with no unusual sound at all. The most difficult part was removing and cleaning the fabric softener cup that sits on top of the agitator (I used the handle ends of a pair of pliers) and removing the old coupling post which was stuck fast in place because of solidified detergent. With advice from the Appliance phone techs, I was able to loosen the post by running hot water around and through the column. For virtually every question I asked, the techs had an immediate answer and should be highly commended! 

I am a mechanism inclined person with moderate appliance repair experience. I was experiencing growls and hard shifting in the wash cycle. I reviewed the video and ordered the parts I felt were necessary and prudent, given I was essentially rebuilding the washer and had already replaced several parts. The washer tore down as described in the video with a few modifications. All the significant parts came with easy to follow instructions for reassembling in a logical process. The washer now sounds and runs like new. Thank you Appliance Parts Pros. Not my first purchase from you and certainly not my last. 

When removing the agitator, I found the bolt was loose, the pulsator coupling damaged, drum bushing and the mode shifter bearings bad, replaced mode shifter assembly, drum bushing, pulsator and bolt. Unit works as designed! 

I turned to the appliancepartspros site which turned out to be a HUGE help. easy to follow site, great chat help - responded right away and beyond just repeating what I saw on the screen. when I had a question related to shipment - was resolved on the spot. I am very impressed and highly recommend to use 

Completely dissembled entire machine. machine had rust and a lot of corrusion. Had to chisel off the aluminum hub nut. Tub seal had a hole in it. Coupling pulsator had to be chiseled off as well. After a new coil was installed, it was discovered that the motor also inoperative. Ordered a used motor but wrong one was shipped. But the tub does not leak any more and the coil is good, So just waiting on a motor. 

Ordered the parts. Removed the Fabric Softener cup from agitator and removed screw . Pulsator pulled off easy and replaced the coupler. Reverse order put together...easy and under 5 minutes..
