How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2056804 / WR1X2027 Door Closure Spring

Door and fresh food door will not stay closed. Ordered the parts from appliance parts pros they came quickly and I really appreciated the how to video on the website. I am generally shocked at how much the springs cost for replacement however, it was the universal going rate through all the websites I searched and appliance pros had the best cost. The springs were difficult to attach but with a little effort and bigger needle nose players they went on. 

I purchased the parts for the door closer mechanisms on my model of side by side refrigerator. I also purchased the parts for the freezer side for future use if needed. I watched the video with my 16 year old daughter (incidentally the same age as the refrigerator) and she said she wanted to do the repair by herself! I provided her with the tools and the parts and less than 20 minutes later she proudly showed me the successful repair! The hardest and most time consuming part was getting the new spring attached! The videos are great! 

I replaced the freezer lever assembly and spring fair quickly. Just in case they were worn. My problem was the cam closure was cracked. So replaced with new one. I didn't even have to remove the freezer door. Used my ratcheting right-angle screwdriver with a 20-torx bit. Took all of 15 minutes to remove the old and put on the new one. There is no need to remove the door if you don't have this handy little tool it's easy to get. 

The customer service agent was able to assist me in getting the correct parts for freezer drawer and a new power cord.

Reinstalled just like video. 

Pulled the plastic valence off the bottom and found a broken plastic roller. Looking at the drawings, I ordered a new roller and the spring that goes with it. Installation was a piece of cake, and the door closes normally now!
