How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4436600 / 4738ER1004B Washer Dispenser Hose

Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com, I was already familiar with the inside of the washer due to replacing the door seal (Thanks guys!) and the readily available diagrams. So going in this time was easy to identify the problem. Opened up the top, and easily identified the dispenser hose as the problem for the overflow out of the dispenser drawer. Though I didn't see any obvious problems, once I removed the Dispenser Hose (which is a breeze) I found a blockage leading into the drum. Apparently a tissue or piece of paper towel made its way through the system into this small opening and blocked the water flowing into the washer's drum. Though the hose itself was not "bad", I still replaced it with the new OEM since I was there and AppliancePartsPros.com offers it at such a reasonable price. Replaced hose and top of unit and all work beautifully. (NOTE: LG, like all others I'm sure, recommends cleaning the detergent dispenser regularly to prevent build up. Apparently during one of these times, my primary user ripped a piece of paper towel during the cleaning process which eventually made it's way down to the drum and its small opening that eventually blocked all ability for water to enter the drum.) While it's a rather large hose, it's a small slit that feeds the water into the drum that can easily get blocked/clogged from buildup or, yes, a piece of paper towel! No matter what, I couldn't have done it without AppliancePartsPros.com. Thanks again for another successful home repair. 

Removed the top cover while the machine was operating, located the source of the leak. The top filler tube had worn a hole in a flex point. Found the right part on this site, replaced it with little effort. While in there I saw a similar hose and decided to replace it as its time was probably up too. So far so good, washing clothes and no leaks!! Great prices and best of all the right parts were delivered in a timely manner. Thanks for making this so easy. Only specialty tool used was hose clamp pliers. Channel locks would have worked but the right tool for the job made this much smoother. Great opportunity to clean behind the machine, change out supply hoses and clear dryer ducts. 

I originally thought the washer had a bad bearing, but once I got it disassembled it the spider arms were broken. This required the replacement of the tub assembly. While replacing the tub I replaced all of the water bellows. The parts came quickly, the live chat and videos were very helpful. This washer has to be completely disassembled to replace the drum, so mark all the screw locations, tag and bag everything and take lots of pics. It was a very rewarding project and hundreds of dollars cheaper than a service call 

Based on info around the web and your site I chose to replace all of the bellowed hoses (3) in the machine, as I did not know which bellow was leaking without taking the washer apart first. If one hose was old enough to leak I figured the others were not far behind. The appliance parts pros videos were very helpful, although I chose to replace the drum drain bellows via access through the rear panel thereby saving myself the time of disassembling the front of the machine, as was instructed. In the end none of these hoses were my problem, but I replaced them anyway and learned a lot more about how the machine functions in the process. The culprit was an intermittent supply hose valve on our wall behind the washer. Occasionally it would leak, spraying the bottom rear of the machine, leaving a puddle running out underneath the front. Replacing those solved the problem and I'm confident that I won't have any leaks stemming from hoses inside the machine. I also took the time clean the mold that was accumulating in hidden portions of the soap tray. I used a HE tub cleaner (Tide) and ran it through a number of cycles to rid the machine of internal mold & scale not visible inside the drum. 

Replaced the dispenser assembly, door gasket, and the bellows because there was mold in the first two. Replacing the bellows just seemed like a good idea since it attaches to the dispenser. The dispenser was super easy to replace. It required a Phillips #2 screw driver and a pair of pliers. 2 screws on the back of the machines top cover (the lower screw on each of the hinges), pull the top cover (slide it toward the rear about and inch and a half, and the lift the cover up and off) The door gasket was more involved. Check out the videos on this site and YouTube. The most difficult step was removing and replacing the spring wire that holds the gasket to the tub and the front of the washer. All of the videos that I watched suggested using a special tool that would make the process easier, but I was able to accomplish the task with 2 pairs of heavy needle nose pliers. I wouldn't suggest going that way to just anyone though. You risk poking a hole in the new expensive gasket when reinstalling it if you aren't very cautious. 

Temporarily fixed OEM hose with adhesive then ordered the new part. Part arrived in a few days. Replaced old with new, checked for leaks. Total time was about 5 min. Easy job! Whole job could be done with two phillips screwdrivers, a stubby & a long. Although a socket would be better with the hose clamps. I also used an inspection mirror to check for leaks. 

The hardest part of the fix was getting the dryer off of the top. I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate that AppliancePartsPros.com had the 5 top items that cause a leak for my specific model device listed. I decided to get them all just in case and that was a lifesaver. Not only was the cold valve leaking but the dispenser hose also has a bad leak. While I had it apart I replaced everything even if it wasn't bad. 

Removed the back and top, located the leak in the hose. We looked up the part using the model number, ordered the part and replaced it! Easy! Saved some major $$$$
