It was a simple fix. I replaced the basket, except there was a catch. The basket was no longer available. At least that is what I was told by a few appliance stores. I searched online and sure enough the silverware basket was no longer available. Until that is, I contacted AppliancePartsPros. They too told me that the original basket was no longer available, however they looked into it further and found out that although the original basket was discontinued there was a "new" part number and associated basket available. Phew. After that it was easy.
