My daughter and I purchased a second-hand kitchenaid mixer that would turn on, but only had one speed, not the ten it was supposed to have. We watched a video on this site and figured we needed a new speed control plate (and we ordered a new motor housing seal as well as long as we had it apart). The shield pour sets right on the bowl. I took the top of the mixer off unbolted everything to get the the speed knob and replaced it and put it back together.
