How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4246797 / R0131577 Defrost Timer Kit

Replacing the defrost timer took about five minutes. I had to remove two screws and unplug the defrost timer from the refrigerator, then plugged the new defrost timer back in and replaced the two screws. I was then done except for the vacuuming up the dust. Easy job. 

Replaced the Timer kit, works like a charm. Saved my 37 year old Amana Refrigerator!! 

Diagnosed that the temperature controller was not working correctly. Their auto defrost and auto defrost timer were working. I decided to replace all three since the unit was Old. Everything is now back together and working correctly. 

A co worker was junking their 9 year old frig, mine was needing repairs too. I was able to diagnose the problems by matching symptoms. COMPONENTS fail, not the entire appliance. Both appliances are fixed now! The co worker spent like $1500 to replace the frig, with your help, I now have 2 fixed refrigerators for about $100. Ordered a replacement evaporator fan and defrost timer and replaced both. Parts were delivered much sooner than expected and were of high quality. Well packaged as well. Will definitely do business with this company again. Oh and customer service was excellent. I got an email that I didn’t respond to immediately due to other commitments, a few hours later a Customer Service agent called to follow-up and processed the order immediately. I was impressed! 

I KNEW THE DEFROST HEATER HAD TO BE STUCK ON OR THE SMALL COOLING FAN UNDER THE FRIG WAS NOT WORKING. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THE COOLING FAN WAS HALF WAY TURNING, STOPPING AND STARTING. SO I ORDERED A NEW FAN MOTOR FROM APPLIANCE PARTS PROS .COM AND THEY OVERNIGHTED IT TO ME AND I HAD IT RUNNING THE NEXT MORNING. I DECIDED TO JUST KEEP THE OTHER 2 PARTS I ORDERED DUE TO THEIR CHEAP COST. WHO KNOWS, I MIGHT NEED THEM DOWN THE ROAD. PS: THE SERVICE PEOPLE TOLD ME ALL KINDS OF THINGS WERE WRONG WITH IT. LIKE THE FREON HAD LEAKED OUT AND TO JUNK IT BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT 27 YEARS OLD. THE AMANA FRIG LOOKS LIKE NEW AND NOW IS RUNS LIKE NEW. I AM SO GLAD YOU GUYS HAD THE COOLING FAN MOTOR FOR AN OLD AMANA FRIG MODEL.SCD19JL 

I went to my local parts store and they had the part, installed it and now the frig works great. I'm still waiting on the part from Applianceparts that was ordered on the 9th . Call Applianceparts had a wait time of 30 min. hung up after 20 min. Sent a E-mail and person from App.pp said the part has shipped, Still I have NO shipping Info at all and NO part . The part that I was waiting on is a ( Defrost Thermostat WP10442411) Today is the 16th and still NO shipping Info. and NO part. 

I replaced the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer. That fixed it. I think the thermostat is what failed but replaced both because they’re the most likely to fail. AppliancePartsPro is a great website. The videos are super helpful. I’ve fixed other appliances with parts.
