How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6993917 / W11454741 Washer Gear Case

Looked for bearings and found out its all one piece with gearcase. Fix took about an hour or an hour and a half. the only difficult part is removing the drum due to crud and rust. I have a gear puller that worked perfectly there are many solutions to the same problem, other than that is very basic unbolting old part and bolting on the new part. 

Watched video and it went smooth. 

Ordered the part and was surprise how fast the delivery was. Watched a few video on You tube and tackled the problem, It pay to follow directions, Removed the motor and other hardware and then the gear case. Tried to remove the tub, but found out the gear case had to be bolted in place. Reattached the case and remove the tub. Everything went back in place and running fine. thanks 

Bearing failed in gear case. Purchased gear case assembly, only option. Found a good video on YouTube that covers the complete repair. Lengthy repair but straightforward. Hardest part was separating the drum from drive shaft since it was seized from years of use. 

I replaced the washer gear case and replaced the belt also. 

Took the machine apart, cleaned all parts and reinstalled everything..along with the new tub seal and the gearcase which included the bearing that failed. 

Transmission replacement 

Replaced the faulty washer gear case assembly, spanner nut and the drive block. Wasn't too bad to replace and it helped with me being an auto tech for 30 years, it made it easier to know how things work. Washers, cars, all mechanical. Works great now!

I found that the adjitator was moving freely from the drive gear on the transmission. I replaced the transmission and the adjitator cam. I recalibrated the washer and it is working good as new.
