How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6015711 / WPW10141682 Hinge

I recently replaced the bearings for this washer. This was the first time I've had to work on this unit since we bought it 10 yrs ago. The symptoms at first was a loud 'jet engine' type howling when in the spinning cycle. I researched the problem and found that the bearing were probably the problem. I ordered the bearing replacement kit and the the bearing press tool. After reading in some forums, I decided to purchase hardware that I could use to press the bearings such as: 1/2" threaded shaft, washers that match up to the bearing races, and a couple of nuts for the ends. I was able to press the bearings on using this set up only to be extremely patient. The toughest part was getting the tub to release from the shaft. I saw in one forum that a person used a jack (the ones you find in a Honda) and a piece of wood 2x4 cut to go across the inside of the tub. Place the jack over the center of the tub and the wood under the lip of the tub and just crank the jack up to the bottom of the wood, then keep cranking until the tub pops off the shaft. There are a bunch of YouTube videos out there. Once I got everything back together and washed my first load, there was a squeaking sound that I thought I screwed up, but when I washed subsequent loads the squeaking had stopped. I contribute the noise to the bearing seal getting lubricated upon being used for the first time. Total repair time: 4 hrs 

Took the top off the washer and found one of the hinge springs corroded (10 years old) and no longer functioning. Using the Appliance Parts Pros website determined the necessary part numbers and ordered the parts for express delivery Wednesday evening from them. Parts arrived Friday morning (36 hours later). Verified parts would fit and installed the hinges. This is the second time I’ve repaired this unit using AppliancePartsPros, thanks. Saved me from having to order in service repairman, going to the laundromat (service repair guys are always available in 36 hours), scheduling around the repair person schedule, or the “ Let’s go buy a new one” Cost and hassle. 

We first replaced both hinges (W10141681,W10141682), which allowed the lid to close and was quieter and smoother than the old ones. But the lid lock would still error out and not allow a wash cycle to run. We replaced the lid lock sensor, too, and everything is now working beautifully. The lid lock replacement (W10619844) was an entirely different shape and model number from the original (W10059230), and had me worried, but it fit into the harness, plugged into the control panel, and works perfectly.
