How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011124 / WP74009336 Gas Cooktop Burner Igniter

Replaced igniter---works great---saved service call. 

I removed the burner with a torx bit which revealed how to remove the insulated igniter. After searching the easy navigable APP site which showed pictures that matched exactly whT I was needing, I placed a simple order and I had my part the verry next day, and didn't even pay for special delivery. I was verry pleased with the service, and will always use this site in the future.?? 

Replaced old igniter. also purchased new screws for burner and igniter assembly since old screws were corroded from spilled food/fluids etc over the years. made the installation much easier. If you need to replace a worn igniter, do yourself a favor and go to hardware store and get matching replacement screws or buy new with igniter. Now my front right burner lights every time with just a click or two. Very pleased. 

Hope this helps others in the same spot. Looking very closely at the 2 burners not lighting up, it was easy to see that while the ignitors were sparking, the spark was very different that the 2 that worked. I turned off all the lights and watched them spark in the dark. The spark on the 2 that worked was brighter, stronger, and primarily sparking at the TOP of the ignitor. The 2 not working were sparking weaker, not as bright and very clearly NOT at the top of the ignitor. I ordered these 2 and replaced them and immediately it worked and all the ignitors now looked the same. Keep in mind that the ignitors replaced were not cracked but were showing "browning" and that indicates wear and tear and impacted the ability to generate a strong spark. Problem took as long to fix as it took me to replace a screw, maybe 7 minutes for 2 burners - piece of cake! 

I ordered two new igniters and replaced them 

Pulled off burner, pulled off bad igniter, put in new igniter, put burner back in, voila. 

Pretty simple- bought replacement ignitor and installed it. Took about three minutes. 

It didn’t, could not get the screw out that held the ignite, so ordered a new burner with igniter included and all went smoothly and works great. Your shipping parts out is superb, would highly recommend. Thank you 

Replaced Igniter 

Removed the upper unit, removed the broken igniter, replaced it with the new igniter and put the upper unit back in place on the rest of the burner.
