How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016637 / WPW10191429 Refrigerator Light Bulb Socket

Changed the top 2 light bulbs but that did not fix the problem. Since the switch that activates the lights still worked for the lower shelf I assumed that one or both bulb sockets were bad. Replaced both sockets and the lights worked fine. 

The AppliancePartsPros guys told me how to check it out. I did. The sockets were getting power, but not working. Ordered new sockets and it works great. THANK YOU! 

Ordered two new sockets and led bulbs. Took my 15-year-old son and me about 10 minutes to pop out the old ones and install the new ones! We spent more time moving the refrigerator out to unplug/plug the power than removing/installing the sockets! 

Duplicated what I took off 

Changed the two sockets on the inside top of the fridge. 

New light bulb sockets 

Replaced light sockets. 

Replaced them 

Installed new OEM parts from Appliance Parts Pros (APP). I replaced both sockets even though only one had failed. The other one was probably close behind. The install video by APP was very accurate for my model. Be careful with the plastic parts on old appliances as they can become brittle (tabs, clips, etc). If you break one, you may find the broken part is no longer available!
