How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005803 / WP21097 Lid Hinge Pad

By pressing down on the lid by the switch it was easy to figure it was the lid switch. I ordered a new switch. Also ordered new lid hinge bearings and lid hinge pads. The AppliancePartsPros.com videos took all the guesswork out of the project. 

Replaced the lid switch,. easily and quickly without any problems. Was able to install new switch by unscrewing the controller panel to reveal the connector. 

Replaced worn parts. 

I unscrewed the hinges from the washing machine lid and removed them. I then thoroughly cleaned the lid and reinstalled the lid hinge bearing in the washing machine itself and then the lid hinge bumper on the hinge and then the lid hinge pad on the lid and finally the lid hinges themselves. The re-installation of the lid hinges was a bit fiddly, but I can put up with doing it once every 5-8 years or so. The selection and shipping of parts from AppliancePartsPros.com was awesome! Shipped the day I ordered and at my home the next day. 

Removed the parts associated with the lid to enable removing the rust spots and touched up these spots with enamel paint. After the paint was dry we were able to instal the new parts which made the washer look new again.
