Dwayne G Glendale , AZ March 24, 2014 Appliance: Maytag 30" Free Standing Electric Range Convection MERH865RAB13 On indicator would not turn off I isolated which Infinite switch was still completing the circuit from the On light indicator. I suspected it was either our front left or right switch because of the frequency of use of those burners. After cutting the power to the range and disconnecting the wire leads from the left burner switch. I turned the power back on and noticed the On light turned off. I then turned on the other burner switches to see if they were functioning with the On indicator and heating elements and they all functioned correctly. When I received the switch I then turned the power off of the range, installed the switch, powered up the range and tested the new switch. All heating elements with On light indicator now worked correctly. Read More... 4 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
Catherine P Eagle , NE September 05, 2016 Appliance: Maytag Self Cleaning Free Standing Electric Range MER5530AAW Stove top element broke and which then caused the light that says the element is on to stay on even when it was off I got online to research what the problem could be and came to realize the infinite switch had probably shorted out when the element broke. While looking for the part I came across an appliancepartspro video that showed me exactly how to replace the switch. I ordered the switch from applicancepartspros.com, which arrived in two days! I watched the video again while installing the part and had it done in less than 30 minutes. The hardest part was lining up the end caps as I put the stove back together, which really wasn't hard, just took a little patience in getting things lined up. Gregory H Stroudsburg , PA November 11, 2014 Appliance: Magic Chef Free Standing Electric Range CER1115AAH Right front burner wouldn't heat up I first traded the right front burner element for the left rear burner element and the right front element worked in the left back, and the left back would not work in the right front. I looked at the burner element receiver (i.e. the device into which the burner plugs) and it looked fine. So I replaced the switch, but the right front burner still did not work. I put the old switch back in and played around with the wires to the right front element receiver. I discovered that one of the wires had slipped out and when I pushed it back into place, I heard and felt a "click" and the wire could not be pulled back out. Plugging the element into the receiver and turning on the old switch caused the right front burner to heat up. Lesson learned: don't just visually inspect the burner receiver. Make certain that the wires are still plugged into the receiver correctly. Jennifer L South Glens Falls , NY April 29, 2025 Appliance: Maytag Self Cleaning Free Standing Electric Range MER5552BAS Surface indicator light stayed on even though no burners were on all burners worked Remove back panels, unplug the range and disconnect the wires leading to a single burner switch. Plug the range back in and see if the light went out. If not, repeat process with each burner until the indicator light goes out. Once you know which burner is causing the Indicator Light to stay on, remove the dial on the front for that burner, remove the two screws allowing you to remove that switch. Install the new switch, replace the two front screws, reconnect the wires and plug range back in. Wallah! It worked. Now the Indicator Light is on only when a burner is being used, as it should be.
