How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011291 / WP7403P239-60 Range Infinite Switch Top Burner Control

Replaced control 

After watching the video, I knew the problem was the switch. I ordered the switch which was delivered 22 hours later and it took 15 minutes to change it. Thanks for the help and excellent service! 

I got online to research what the problem could be and came to realize the infinite switch had probably shorted out when the element broke. While looking for the part I came across an appliancepartspro video that showed me exactly how to replace the switch. I ordered the switch from applicancepartspros.com, which arrived in two days! I watched the video again while installing the part and had it done in less than 30 minutes. The hardest part was lining up the end caps as I put the stove back together, which really wasn't hard, just took a little patience in getting things lined up. 

I isolated which Infinite switch was still completing the circuit from the On light indicator. I suspected it was either our front left or right switch because of the frequency of use of those burners. After cutting the power to the range and disconnecting the wire leads from the left burner switch. I turned the power back on and noticed the On light turned off. I then turned on the other burner switches to see if they were functioning with the On indicator and heating elements and they all functioned correctly. When I received the switch I then turned the power off of the range, installed the switch, powered up the range and tested the new switch. All heating elements with On light indicator now worked correctly. 

I first traded the right front burner element for the left rear burner element and the right front element worked in the left back, and the left back would not work in the right front. I looked at the burner element receiver (i.e. the device into which the burner plugs) and it looked fine. So I replaced the switch, but the right front burner still did not work. I put the old switch back in and played around with the wires to the right front element receiver. I discovered that one of the wires had slipped out and when I pushed it back into place, I heard and felt a "click" and the wire could not be pulled back out. Plugging the element into the receiver and turning on the old switch caused the right front burner to heat up. Lesson learned: don't just visually inspect the burner receiver. Make certain that the wires are still plugged into the receiver correctly. 

After the part was received, 10 day after shipment by FED EX, the replacement was easy. Remove back, pull old part and replaced. 

Replaced the infinite control module Once we got the correct part it wasn’t too bad 

Determined that the infinite switch was bad, ordered a new switch from appliance parts pros and installed it
