How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016542 / WPW10185992 Dryer Timer Control

The knob broke off the plastic arm that came out of timer. Had to replace timer and knob. Very easy repair. 

Ordered new timer and fixed the problem 

Replaced timer assembly. 

Replaced timer motor. 

I researched what repair was needed (you can’t just replace the timer stem; you have to replace the entire timer. The timer part itself was about $82. I called my local repair place and they wanted to charge me almost $300 for the part, labor, and a service fee. So, I decided to try and fix it myself. There was a video on fix.com that I watched. I saw that I had all the tools I needs and the steps were pretty straightforward. When the part arrived, I had already removed the old timer and the new install was super easy. The repair was a success and saved me almost $200 doing it myself. 

Installed a new timer. 

Replaced the timer. Worked great easy install.

I relied on ChatGPT and found the AppliancePartsPros. I called AppliancePartsPros, spoke with Brian, and got the parts I needed. I had difficulty taking the old Dryer Control Knob because there were 2 prongs with a hole that made it hard to unplug. It took several hours just to figure it out.
