I installed a Kitchen Aid 3/4 HP disposer in 1994 to replace the junky builder's unit that came with the house. I wanted a wham-jam model, but was told they didn't make them anymore. Over time, the splash guard got torn up and became quite ineffective.
I've wanted to replace it for some time, but it wouldn't pull out through the sink flange. On these models you actually must dis-mount the unit from the sink flange assy. because the splash guard doubles as a seal.
I was a little concerned because Appliance Parts Pros didn't list my particular model. Mine is a KCD1250-X2, but they list only the X and X3 variants for some reason. But it turned out the splash guard listed for the others fit mine OK.
After dropping the unit, popping off the old splash guard, and installing the new one, the hardest part of the job was holding the unit up tight to the sink flange with one hand while getting the locking ring started in all three grooves with the other hand. Other than that, it's a piece of cake.
