I turned off the power. I forced the door open and disassembled the door inside panel.(about 10 screws) Then I put in the handle which I had previously bought. This was the second time I replaced it and so I ordered more spares (this order). This is a problem with Maytag washers that do not have the big handle/latch. The tiny plastic tab on this handle does the unlatch and breaks finally. A second problem is the bosses which take the screws which hold this handle are fragile. I have reinforced with tie wraps.which may not last forever. The bosses are molded into the large front plastic assembly. I have not checked on its availability or price.
