My dryer would not advance the timer on automatic setting. Repair man replaced timer, alarm board, and sensor rods. I told him that when I checked the heater ohms prior to the repair he didn't think that that was the cause of the problem. Once they gave me the replacement money for a new dryer under an extended warranty, I ordered up a new heater.
While reviewing the wiring diagram for the dryer, I found that the temperature selector switch was involved in the auto-drying circuit. I back probed the switch and found it was not making contact between the grey and brown. I twisted the switch slightly and suddenly got continuity. Put everything back together and it worked. Whether it was the the switch or the heater, I can't be sure.
