Removed front panel using putty knife inserted between top lid and front panel. Plugged in and selected Drain and Spin option on front panel. Drain pump started but drive motor did not turn. Followed the steps I found at http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/GE-washer-repair.html. The LED light on motor periodically flashed six times, which the web site said meant that "motor will not turn". Following their instructions, I confirmed that the the large pulley was not jammed and the mother was not frozen, lid switch was closing properly, the shift coil was not shorted out and the motor was getting power. Therefore, installed new drive motor. New motor operates without inline fuse, so I had to remove it. Before reinstalling drive belt, I plugged in machine and selected Drain and Spin. Drain pump started and motor turned. Most difficult task was to reinstall drive belt. Tilted machine, threaded belt on motor shaft and started on large pulley. Used three zip ties to hold belt on large pulley and turned, like installing bicycle chain. Reinstalled front panel and machine worked fine. When I started I knew very little about how this machine worked and I could not have done this without the clear instructions on the web site. I believe that most novice DIYers could follow the online instructions.
