My refrigerator is 13 years old and has always been a pain. The shelf above the ice maker broke last year which caused the ice maker to keep making ice even when the bin was full (the shelf keeps the ice contained which causes the ice buildup to shut off the ice maker).
My water dispenser would occasionally refuse to dispense water. It appeared to me that the issue was caused by the nozzle freezing. The trap door for the ice was not closing properly so freezing air was always blowing out.
The open trap door for the ice was allowing frost to build up in the ice shoot. After finding this site I realized the broken parts were likely easy to get to. Using the DIY videos, I removed the necessary parts to make a good diagnoses of the issues. The solenoid that opens the ice door was heavily corroded and didn't appear to be working. The rubber trap door was old, hardened, and didn't appear to be sealing well.
All of my parts arrived on Wednesday (they were ordered on Sunday), and I fixed my fridge in about 5 minutes. Having already pulled all of the parts out once, the actual repair was a piece of cake. My only regret is not having found this site sooner and ordering the parts.....I have been yelling at my refrigerator for way too long!
