John H Eagle , CO September 20, 2014 Appliance: Model GE JP980 Left front burner of ge electronic cooktop had failed Using the cooktop repair manual provided by AppliancePartsPros I removed the cooktop from the counter, opened it up and replaced the bad burner. I used the gasket tape to replace the old tape that had been torn as I used a thin blade to separate the Cooktop ceramic (glass) surface from the granite countertop. I sure didn't want to break the ceramic surface! (BTW I took photos of the process with my phone to ensure that I put the new wires went back into their original locations.) IMHO the most unnerving part of the process was getting the cooktop out of the counter - I was quite afraid that I might break the glass. In the event, all went smoothly and my fears were overblown. I closed all up an put the unit back into the counter. Al burners 'worked', but the unit failed the 'calibration' test. A new logic board was suggested by the GE manual - so keep tuned for the second chapter. Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours
