Robert S Clinton , MO January 16, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave JVM1850WF001 Ge Microwave Jvm1850wf001: Microwave dies when start button is pressed and blows fuse (main volage line fuse not the hvt fuse). How to replace Microwave Capacitor. NOTE: The Microwave stopped during use with a popping sound 1. Replaced fuse (Main Voltage line fuse not the HVT Fuse). 2. Pressed Start and it blew again. 3. Contacted Appliance Parts Pros because the trouble shooting said to check door switches. 4. Checked switches and found all OK but the monitor switch seemed to drag on response time and appeared to have some signs of overheating on connection blades. 5. Ordered and replaced switch. Still blowing fuses. 6. The manufacture's troubleshooting stated that next step was to replace the HVT ($150)! 7. Pulled the HV Capacitor following ALL safety precautions. 8. Tested the capacitor with a Digital Meter and found an internal short. 9. Contacted Appliance Pros Parts and discussed my findings and agreed that my findings were correct and sent me the replacement capacitor ($55). They also asked if wanted to return the monitor switch. I elected to keep that one that I installed because it was a little fasted in it's designed function and I felt that I may be checking one that was about to give up the ghost. So the new one stayed. 43 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
