The Whirlpool designed built-in microwave does not have an easily replaceable bulb. The microwave oven had to be removed from the wall cabinet and then completely disassembled to get at the bulb area. Disassembly and reassembly was fairly easy with only a phillips screw driver required and a Torx screw driver for two special Torx screws designed to keep amateurs from doing repairs like this one. Replacing the actual lamp assembly was very easy: just lift the wiring plug off the socket prongs, lift out the bakelite base and bulb, slip in the new base and bulb and push the wiring plug back onto the socket prongs.
