Barry R New Rochelle , NY May 15, 2016 Appliance: Model JGS8759BDS Non responsive touchpad buttons I replaced the control panel assembly. First I unplugged the range. I slid the range out so I could get to the two screws securing the panel to the range at the ends. I did this by removing the bottom warming drawer and pulling the bottom cross member. I then removed the 4 screws under the burner knobs, and the 4 hex-head screws under the panel. That allowed me to slide the panel towards me enough to barely get my fingers in to disconnect the plugs. The cables are short, and each plug has a latch you must depress in order to remove it. It's best to start from the left-hand end and work your way towards the right when removing the plugs. Once free, I removed the touchpad's flex circuit connector from the control board and removed the 4 screws securing the board to the panel. I put the old control board into the new panel, connected the flex circuit from the new keypad, and starting at the right hand side, I plugged in each color-coded cable into its respective connector on the control board. I slid the panel into place, carefully avoiding pinching any cables, and replaced the screws. I plugged the range back in and checked that all functions worked. The most difficult parts were sliding the oven in and out, followed by reconnecting the short cables in a very tight space. A special note: This can easily be a one person job, but having a second person help support the fairly heavy casting as you disconnect and connect the cables makes it much easier. Watch the oven latch that protrudes just below the panel. It's thin sheet metal and is easily bent if used to support the panel as you remove or install it. 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
