The icemaker start to make a loud ratcheting noise and eventually stopped working. I was able to find the part on Appliance Parts and my neighbor and I replaced it. Two heads are alway better than one and he is much stronger than I am and we needed to take the freezer door off to complete the job. We also took the opportunity to scrub all the parts of the freezer down and vacuum the back and underside of the refrigerator - it was plenty dirty. We encountered another problem after the repair with a knocking noise so I replaced the water supply hose as well and that took care of the problem - I used a special hose with water hammer resistor built in so don't if it was the hose or it actually needed the resistor part. All in all a successful and fairly easy job.
