Over the years, however, the hinge can wear which then prevents the spring from seating properly. If that occurs, or if there is some sort of major damage to the flap, then the entire part needs to be replaced. One last tip: to replace the entire flap, simply remove the two screw caps in the center hinge which exposes the two Phillips screws that holds this entire assembly. After removing the two screws, the assembly slides UPwards from tabs that hold the outer hinges. (Do NOT try to pry off the outer hinges!)
