One nut was stripped and since the GE Compactor is ten years old I ordered two nuts and replaced
both. Removing compactor from under counter and removing panels took longer than replacing the nuts. Video shows using a screwdriver to pry off clips from retainer pins but I found just using a hammer and tapping pin out worked far better.
I cleaned steel acme screws and put new grease on them and the Nut. Reinstalled and now works
great. Applianceparts showed up in two days and were best price I found. Will use again.
A technical note for owners who have some electrical skill, this unit uses the motor starting switch to reverse the compactor by stalling the motor at bottom of stroke. This puts heavy load on the centripical start switch in the motor and burns out the switch but motor is fine. I installed a relay
between the start switch and reversing microswitch so no longer any wear.
