Anthony N Las Vegas , NV August 11, 2014 Appliance: Model LA9690XWW1 Washing machine starter knob had to be replaced The repair sounds easy, doesn't it? It would have been, except that I actually had to do laundry while waiting for the part to arrive. So, I was using a pair of channel locks to turn the exposed bolt/post sticking out in order to turn the washing machine on. In doing so, I actually crushed part of the thread on the bolt, so the starter knob wouldn't screw on! In order to screw on the new starter knob, I had to buy a special nut which rethreaded the bolt. It cost $25 for rethreading kit! Once that was accomplished, screwing the starter knob on was as easy as pie. My advice to others: do NOT try to grip and turn the threaded bolt with out using a piece of fabric draped on it first!! 16 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
