Emptying the fuel tank is recommended for safety. Remove locking nuts on the trimmer. Remove blade guard, washers, and tip guard. Remove screws on the gear case cover. Take apart all blades and gears. Use snap ring pliers to pull out the retaining ring and pull out the clutch drum. Internal snap ring pliers are used to remove the ball bearing drum to access the ball bearings.
