This air cleaner housing is used to contain the air filter of a number of small gasoline powered engines. It attaches to the carburetor, holding the air filter in place to prevent particulates from entering the air/fuel mix of the engine. This housing is used on equipment such as walk-behind lawn mowers, log splitters, and other small engines uses. It's fairly rare for the air filter housing to fail. Rather, it's much more likely that the housing will suffer damage from banging against other equipment and obstacles. Additionally, when regularly replacing the air filter, it's a good idea to examine the filter housing for any damage or fitting problems. If the housing is not snug and airtight, dust, grass pieces, and other particulate can enter the carburetor and cause more significant damage. The air cleaner housing is easily accessible and can be removed and replaced. First remove the cover, the filter and prefilter, if present, exposing the bolts that hold the housing to the carburetor. Simply remove the bolts, remove the old housing, and replace it. Reverse the disassembly process, making sure to install a new filter.
