Description

This defrost heater warms the evaporator coil during the automatic defrost cycle to melt frost and ice, restoring airflow and consistent temperatures. Replace a failed heater to stop recurring frost buildup and uneven cooling. What it does:

• Heats the evaporator to clear frost/ice so air can circulate
• Helps maintain stable refrigerator and freezer temperatures
• Symptoms include heavy frost on the back freezer panel or coils, poor cooling, evaporator fan noise from ice contact, or frost returning soon after a manual defrost

Install notes:

• Disconnect power before servicing
• Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel to access the evaporator area
• Transfer the heater into the original clips/brackets and route wiring exactly as original, away from sharp edges and the fan
• If frost returns after replacement, also test the defrost thermostat and the defrost control

Diagnostic tip:

• With power disconnected, the heater should show continuity on an ohmmeter; an open circuit indicates a failed element
