Ronald N San Jose , CA May 01, 2015 The shaft inside the lock assembly broke when someone forced the key Replace the lock assembly: Open the lid and remove four philips screws from underneath the gasket. Carefully and patiently remove all of the gasket clips, first from the left and right sides then remove all but two from the top so when the final one comes out the panel and gasket can come towards you and then set gently in the top of the freezer. Remove the wires from the bulb in the center so they won't be in the way. Remove the large fiberglass rectangle and set it on top of the panel. Use a socket wrench to remove the two nuts holding the handle onto the lid, then remove the handle by sliding it out. Use a philips to remove the screw and the hook from the end of the old lock assembly. Use a needle-nose plier to slide off the clip that holds the lock assembly to the lid. The old lock assembly will now slide out of the front. Replace the lock assembly and put back the clip that holds it in place. Put the hook back on the end of the lock assembly and screw in, making sure the orientation is correct because it can be flipped or at the wrong angle, confirm by using the key to make sure it rotates and hooks correctly. Follow previous steps in reverse to put the lid back together.
