I arrived home from work to hear beeping noises coming from our Kenmore 253.70151014 1500 BTU window AC unit we've owned for 14 months. The temperature read 90 degrees and several of the lights were lit (as they do when the unit actually runs), but it was not running. I tried unplugging the unit and using the reset button on the GFI plug the unit comes with, but it still would not work. In a last-ditch effort, I let it sit unplugged for several hours, plugged it back in, and the controls still would not work. The unit would turn on for a few minutes, and blow air out, but nothing else. Then it would turn off even though the display showed 90 degrees, Energy Saver, and Auto fan speed.
14 months old! I thought "what a disappointment".
I did some digging around online and saw Sears techs say to replace the PC board. Well, after finding AppliancePartsPros.com, I found 2 PC boards listed as parts, one was the control board and the other was for something else. After chatting with a representative, I was told the other PC board had to do with power and actual turn on, and I needed to replace the control PC board, so I purchased that one.
Of course, waiting a few days for it to arrive brought lots of second-guessing and doubt, because we were in the middle of a mid-90's stretch of early summer heat here just outside of St. Louis, Missouri (Misery), and we were just praying that it would indeed be THIS PC board and not the other one.
I placed my order on a Thursday night, it shipped the next day (Friday), came from a distribution center in Illinois and ended up luckily being delivered that Saturday since it was FedEx Home Delivery which does have Saturday delivery. (Especially good since again, our house was hot and it was not going to cool off anytime soon.) I already had the front off the AC unit, so it was as easy as plugging in the new one and putting the front back on and our AC sprung to life again, and we were able to control it once more.
We are happy to have our window AC working again in tip top shape, and are very glad to have it working in preparation for the rest of the hot summer coming on.
