Terry S Evanston , IL May 20, 2015 Burner skirt rusted out on kenmore cooktop This should be an easy 5 minute three screws out and three screws back in job....but on older stuff it's never easy is it? The screws that hold the skirt on my burner were, like the skirt, rusted solid and despite soaking with PB-1 Blaster they just broke off when I tried to remove them. You can't effectively drill out the remains of the broken screws either (well I couldn't) because the part they screw into is a soft alloy and the screws are hard so the bit wanders off center and if the hole is off center it won't line up with the holes in the skirt. My solution was to get a tube of high temp RTV silicone and glue the new skirt on. Once the burner plate is reinstalled you can't see that the screws are no longer there and the skirt work just fine.
