The purpose of the smoothtop assembly is to be a surface for cookware. It heats up to create food and beverages with a kitchen range. The smoothtop assembly can be cracked, chipped, and otherwise damaged. When this occurs, the component will need to be replaced.To replace the smoothtop assembly, a set of basic tools and a pair of work gloves will be needed. Pull the oven out from the wall to unplug it or turn off the appropriate circuit breaker. The oven door should be opened to gain access to the screws that hold on the smoothtop assembly. Unscrew the component from the stove and lift up. The connects components, such as the heating elements, should be removed. Take the smoothtop assembly off and reconnect the extra parts to the new replacement assembly.
