Francene G Fort Myers , FL November 11, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Microwave JVM1540DM5WW Over the stove microwave would not heat (only 2 years old) I goggled why my microwave would not heat and found an article on Appliance pros of 3 possibilities. 2 easy to fix..so I started with the first one which was the door switches. Followed the instructions and found the switches, removed them, brought them to my local Ace hardware to check connectivity. 2 of the 3 switches where bad. Iain A Memphis , TN September 27, 2020 Appliance: Model JVM1540SMSSS Primary interlock switch failed in my ge spacesaver microwave After reading the helpful troubleshooting stories on your website, I disconnected the power from the microwave and had a look around behind the control panel and behind the door frame. I saw the microswitches mentioned in the troubleshooting information, and I immediately noticed the primary interlock switch was charred. I disconnected it and tested it for continuity. Indeed it had failed. I ordered the replacement switch and something told me to also order the latch board which holds the switch. I was afraid I would damage the existing latch board, I suppose. I'm glad I ordered both items. When I removed the old switch from the old latch board, the tabs which secure the switch broke off, as they seemed brittle. Once I discovered that the switches pivot on a plastic pin before locking in place, I quickly and easily installed the new switch in the new latch board, along with the existing switches, and the microwave came back to life when I restored the power. I was very pleased with how quickly I got the job done and that I thought to order the new latch board. I saved a lot of money by avoiding a service call, too!
