Ge WH5X256 Clutch & Clip Assembly OEM Part

Wife calls - it's broke. Home from work, immediately suspected clutch, V-belt or similar. Could hear the motor running. Founda video on youtube showing how to remove front panel. Looked. Sure enough, motor runs - nothing else turns. Figured the clutch was fragged. Order new clutch. When it arrives, pull the old one off. Mmm, that came apart rather easily - video said I'd have to drive the retaining clip off - but this one all but fell off. Put new clutch in and it slid up the motor shaft all teh way to the motor! That ain't right! Ah! the torque pin has fragged out and is now dust! Crap - no new torque pin. Wait, I've an old drill index... Find a drill that just fits, measure against slot in clutch driven spider - cut bit to fit. Assemble all and voila! It's all working. Re-assemble front panel and now I have clean clothes.

Did some research on the internet. Narrowed it down to the clutch. I called and spoke to a tech at AppliancePartsPros.Com and they agreed with my line of thinking. My GE Profile washer wouldn't spin anymore. The hardest part was diagnosing the problem. Through the process of elimination, I narrowed it down to the clutch. I found the Appliance Parts Pros website and ordered a new clutch and drive belt. The drive belt wasn't necessary, but if you are replacing the clutch, you might as well replace the belt. The video on the website was extremely helpful. After watching that, the repair was easy peasy.

During the spin cycle, with a heavy load, the motor would spin but the pulley would barely move and the clutch smelled terrible. Took front panel off, laid washer on its back, removed the pump mounting bracket screws, and the bottom panel. Marked the location of the motor and loosened the motor mounting screws to remove the belt. Then pulled the retaining clip off of the shaft, used a puller to release the clutch from the shaft, pulled the clutch off. Lined up the new clutch on the shaft, pushed on new retaining clip, put motor back in original location, tightened motor mounting screws, installed belt, re-attached bottom panel, pump bracket, and front panel. Done.
