Description

Also called a thermodisc, this evaporator-mounted defrost thermostat monitors coil temperature and switches the heater off when frost is cleared. Replacing a failed thermostat helps restore proper defrosting, airflow, and consistent refrigerator temperatures.

• Senses evaporator coil temperature during the defrost cycle
• Closes when the coil is cold to let the defrost heater energize; opens as the coil warms to stop heating
• Helps prevent heavy frost buildup that restricts airflow and cooling
• Symptoms include ice on the rear freezer panel, poor cooling, or the defrost heater not turning on

• Disconnect power before servicing
• Access from the freezer by removing shelves and the rear panel
• Attach the thermostat securely to the same tubing location for good thermal contact; route wires away from moving parts
• Fully defrost any existing ice before returning the unit to service
