Robert B Wellesley , MA December 17, 2017 Our freezer fan was making a lot of noise we weren't sure of if the problem was the fan the motor or the panel vibrating I found an exploded drawing and part list on the manufacturer's site. I ordered new fan parts from APP because of the low prices and fast shipping. We have a standard size top freezer GE refrigerator. Four screws hold the back panel (inside the freezer) in place. After removing the screws the panel comes off easily. The single wiring harness connector comes off with a squeeze. At this point you can take the panel out of the freezer and change the motor and fan on a more convenient work surface. To access the fan bracket screws the plastic duct piece must be removed from the front of the panel. Be careful not to break the fragile plastic tabs on this piece. Remove the brackets holding the fan motor and replace the motor. Be careful not to lose the rubber bushings supporting the fan motor. Next time I will order those too. Reassembly is the reverse. We now have a quiet freezer. Read More... 8 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
Barry M West Deptford , NJ October 09, 2017 The freezer portion of the refrigerator was making a grating noise it was determined that it was the fan located in the freezer that was not functioning properly The covering of the fan was removed and it could be seen that the fan was not turning easily. Eric H Indianapolis , IN November 17, 2017 Appliance: Model GTH21GCEBBB Evap fan motor. Refrigerator not getting cold, very little air blowing out of lower vent in freezer plus had a loud noise from frozen ice so I let that thaw out prior to the motor going out completely thinking that was the issue at first. So I took the fan cover off the part where you can adjust how cold you want , i saw that the fan wasn’t spinning at all, so I figured that was pretty much the issue. I took it apart then searched online to find the motor. And appliancepartspros, had one of the cheapest prices plus had what I needed in stock unlike other companies. I ordered it Sun. night and it arrived Tuesday around 2pm. Definitely worth the shipping price. We were using a cooler for a few days. When it arrived I just put it back on and put it all back together . Just a few screws and the little cords to clamp back in. It was a peace of cake. Way way cheaper then calling someone out and then paying for labor. Not as hard or difficult as we think it would be for this particular issue. I did order the fan too, but didn’t need it, just gonna put it up. Pretty cheap, not worth the shipping back hassle and stuff. Read More... Paul M Shirley , NY May 22, 2020 Evap fan motor was very noisy I replaced the motor, fan and fan clamp. The fan clamp was a little tricky getting on but not bad. It took longer to empty freezer and refill it than it took to do the job (very easy). Read More... Lorraine G Floral Park , NY December 13, 2017 Appliance: Model GTZ21 GE model #GT221 freezer evaporator fan motor making loud noise. By watching 3 different video's the actual job to get to motor in freezer was 20 minutes. This is done by removing ice machine, shelf, plastic cover over motor (plastic snap on - be care-full removing). The four screws hold entire back plate , which when remove exposes fan motor. Then remove two screw on bracken attached to back plate. Remove ground screw and now you can remove entire motor on bracket. Remove two screws on bracket and motor is out. Here the problem, when you order the motor, you will also have to order the fan & clamp parts. Reason and video's do not reveal this problem, the clamp is epoxy on to fan. You have to remove these parts even thought you order new ones, to get off the top half of bracket. I tried removing epoxy from clamp and fan and the portion of fan crack. Once epoxy is removed the fan slides right off like the video's show. Important, save two rubber gaskets which one goes below motor on to bracket and the other goes on motor under fan. Attached top bracket part onto to motor and then fan and clamp. Make sure clamp is secured fully on fan. Entire clamp should be secure. You do not need epoxy or glue to hold down. Reattached reversing above directions. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers, Socket Set
