Brent F Arlington , TX March 13, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Dishwasher PDW9980N20SS Ge profile quiet power 7 dishwasher start button would no longer function Looks as if water seeped down onto the control strip and shorted it out. There were two traces in the membrane switch ribbon cable that were blown. Considered soldering them, but removing the control strip for inspection pretty much ruined the aesthetics of it, so just ordered another. You just have to unscrew the top mount screws to free the back panel of the door from the hinged inner panel of the door. Just lay the door flat open and unscrew everything facing straight up, nothing going horizontal as those attach the hinges/etc. The inner panel is what is hinged and will want to close, so keep a hold of it while unscrewing and close both panels to relieve the hinges spring tension. Then pull back the outer panel enough to expose the ribbon cable and pull it out of the board connector using needle nose pliers to push the tab in. Be gentle when reinstalling as the ribbon cable connector pins bend easily. Peel off the old control strip, scrape off the old glue, and reinstall the new strip. Someone posted some basic instructions online, which I followed. It took me about 45 minutes - basically because I didn't know what I was doing and was very cautious. It was much easier than I expected and I'm thrilled with the results and proud of myself that I could actually do it.
